     At a true One Crystal moment, Head of Middle School Jess Dang, and Head of Upper School Jennifer Carleton, came together to release the newest members of the Crystal community, a homing pigeon flock. Soon, these pigeons will carry messages between the Upper School and Middle School campuses, connecting our community in a unique and meaningful way.

  • US Student Leaders Build Skills and Community in September Retreats

    September was a busy and inspiring month for our US student leaders, with three separate retreats designed to equip them with the skills and vision necessary to guide their peers this year. These retreats focused on community building, collaborative planning, and leadership development, setting a strong foundation for the year ahead. We are incredibly proud of the commitment and enthusiasm shown by all of our student leaders. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of their leadership on the Crystal community!

  • Mansion Renovation Project Update

    If you’ve been on the US campus, you know that renovation of the Uplands Mansion is well underway. Since breaking ground in June, most of the work has fallen into three categories: Protection of the building and its most delicate features, both inside and out; Abatement of materials no longer used in construction today; and Demolition to prepare for new, upgraded learning spaces. Exterior painting started last week, and the first new cement is being poured into the basement this week.

  • Coach Car Retires from Cross Country

    Albert Caruana, or "Coach Car" as he’s known around campus, has impacted Crystal's Cross Country and Track programs like no other. After 29 years leading these flagship teams, and bringing home four Team State Championships and one individual State Championship in the process, Coach Car has stepped aside from his coaching role.   • PAC works with Stanford's CSET on AI in Education

    In SY 2025-26, Crystal's Professional Adult Community (PAC) will dive deeper into AI, what it means for our teaching and learning philosophy, how teachers can effectively and meaningfully leverage AI to enrich learning, and how we prepare our students for success in an AI world. During PAC Week (in-service training held earlier in the month), PAC began working with Stanford University's Center to Support Excellence in Teaching (CSET), a partnership that will continue throughout the year.

    The start of School Year 2025-26 saw students on the beach flying kites, paddling kayaks, and surfing the waves; in the trees solving group challenges, zipping along the treetops, and roasting marshmallows; and on campus and around the Bay Area building bonds and creating community. Enjoy a taste of the joy and enthusiasm!
  • Surf’s Up! Our First Day of School was a Total Splash!

    What a totally tubular start to the new school year! Crystal’s campuses were absolutely buzzing with excitement and positive vibes as students and PAC members alike “caught the wave” of a brand new academic year. The energy was palpable, with old friends reconnecting and new friendships beginning to form. It was truly a “swell” day to be a student at Crystal. But the highlight of the day was undeniably the Senior Class, who totally “wiped out” any first-day jitters with their incredible “Surfs Up” themed opening Assembly.

    We were so thrilled to welcome these bright new faces to join our school family at the MS and US Orientation Days last week. These Gryphons got to come to campus a day earlier than everyone else to familiarize themselves with campus, meet some new friends, and get to know our faculty. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make orientation a resounding success. We can't wait to see all the amazing things our new and returning students will accomplish this year!

    Our 8th grade scientists in Rob Kashima's class put their engineering skills to the ultimate test with the Egg Drop Lander Challenge! This engaging assignment tasked students with a critical mission: to design, build, and test a prototype "lander" capable of safely delivering a precious, fragile cargo–a large chicken egg–without a single crack.
