Crystal Grads Give Back

Our US Microeconomics & Finance class and Math Teacher, Hannah Maluth ‘16, brought things full circle in her MiFi class this spring. Ms. Maluth now teaches a class that she took from our Head of School, Kelly Sortino when Ms. Maluth was a student at Crystal. Following the curriculum designed by Ms. Sortino and former Head of Middle School and current Trustee Andrew Davis, Ms. Maluth added her spin on a culminating guest speaker series to give students a sense of real-world applications to the theories they have been studying all year.

Hoping to bridge the gap between study and practice even more, Ms. Maluth brought in recent Crystal graduates to share their experiences. This approach offered students a unique glimpse into potential career paths in finance immediately after college. They learned about a broad spectrum of opportunities within a variety of fields, gaining a more informed perspective on their future options.

The guest speaker line-up included the following alumni:
  • AJ Qiu ‘16: A Fintech professional, AJ discussed strategic partnerships in the financial technology industry. He designed a negotiation activity for the students, highlighting the importance of building strong bonds in the finance world. (Fun fact: AJ was also a student in Ms. Sortino’s original MiFi class!)

  • Matthew Goldberg ‘16: Working in Tech Equity Capital Markets as an Investment Banker, Matthew provided insights into the world of IPOs and stock market analysis. He helped students understand why their simulated stock market shares were behaving the way they were.
We extend a special thank you to Ms. Maluth for putting her innovative spin on the guest speaker series. Our gratitude also goes to Computer and Data Science Department Chairs Akemi Kashiwada and Ashley Zanca for their invaluable support in making this series a success.

This initiative exemplifies the strength of the Crystal community. Alumni remain connected and eager to share their knowledge with the next generation.
