I really enjoy the community at Crystal. Both the teachers and students really make this school a place where I feel safe to be myself and to learn. Everyone is very encouraging and is always helping you and giving you support whenever you may need it.

    Outside of the classroom:
I really enjoyed doing the musicals and plays at Crystal. I love acting and singing, so they are a perfect opportunity for me to explore my interests and build a community. Through the musicals and plays, I have made many new friends and gotten close to many people, as everyone involved in the productions becomes like a family. I also enjoy doing sports like volleyball and basketball. I love that I don’t have to be the best at any sports to play and have fun.

    Class Year: 2029
    Hometown: Palo Alto
School attended before Crystal: Challenger Elementary

What made you decide to come to Crystal?
I chose to come to Crystal because of the amazing community of teachers, students, and friends. I saw myself fitting into the environment here at Crystal, and have really enjoyed spending the last few years here. People are always there to help and support, and Crystal students always reminded to be kind and inclusive. Both my older siblings have attended Crystal, one being a senior and one being a sophomore. I saw how much they enjoyed being at this school, and I myself definitely wanted to attend Crystal for a while.

    Outside of the classroom:
I like to compete in athletics, and my main interest is soccer. However, I also really enjoy playing sports like volleyball, lacrosse, and tennis. Another one of my passions at Crystal is Art, as I have been in the Visual Arts Program for 2 years and have also been in her co-curricular, Sketchbook. During 6th grade, I was also in the year-long Instrumentals program with Mr. Fongheiser and had taken an interest in guitar.

What made you decide to come to Crystal?
Snow Day at Crystal is hands down one of the best experiences I've had. It's a wonderful break from the daily grind of classes and homework, and it brings the entire Crystal community together for an unforgettable day. Last year, we had a blast at a famous theater where we rocked the Lip Sync performance which is another one of my favorite Crystal traditions, followed by a fantastic party with games and delicious food. I love Snow Day so much and I'm sure everyone else feels the same way!

    Outside of the classroom:
I stay busy at Crystal with sports. I try to get involved in as many as I can throughout the year because I really enjoy the athletic community here. Even though I play a lot of different sports, soccer is my favorite. You can usually find me out on the field kicking the ball around with my friends, or hanging out inside chatting and laughing with them.

What made you decide to come to Crystal?
What made me decide to go to Crystal was the warm environment. I remember being a sixth grader and feeling super nervous about coming to a whole new school and leaving my friends. This thought did not last long; I soon realized that Crystal welcomes everyone and makes them feel seen, and as a Crystal ambassador, I want to do the same.

    Outside of the classroom:
Outside of Crystal, you can find me either painting or practicing volleyball. I recently got into that sport, thanks to Crystal. I had never played 2 years ago, but now I really enjoy it. Crystal encouraged me to try new things, and now it is one of my favorite after school activities.

At Crystal, I most enjoy the ability to be my authentic self. They emphasize the fact that we are all unique and encourage us to embrace our differences, which creates the tight-knit community we all love. In this school, there is always a reason to have a smile on your face, which makes every day feel special.

    Outside of the classroom:
I play sports at Crystal in every season of the school year, so I obviously have plenty of experience in athletics. Every sport is split up into teams for everyone’s level, so each one is an enjoyable experience. One sport that isn’t part of this regular rotation is golf, which has a separate program that I am a part of. I’m still trying new things, including robotics this year. Overall, Crystal has so many great extracurricular opportunities that attract students of all interests.

What made you decide to come to Crystal?
I came to Crystal not just for the academics and sports but for the community. When I was a 5th grader, I began not only thinking about which school I wanted go to, but what kind of community I wanted to be a part of, and how I wanted to be challenged. Now that I’m an 8th grader, I know that I picked the right school! Crystal’s positive and supportive community has welcomed me, challenged me, and taught me well.

    Outside of the classroom:
Outside of the classroom at Crystal, I play lacrosse in the fall and tennis in the spring. In the winter, I dance, which is a new activity that I’ve been doing since the beginning of 6th grade. For the last two years, I’ve been in Instrumentals, but this year, I’m trying Visual Arts since I’ve been wanting to try something new!  As part of my rotation, I’ll also get to do Music.

What made you decide to come to Crystal?

What made me decide to come to Crystal is the community and the food! Mostly the community. I loved how the teachers interacted with the students. I also loved how easy it seemed to make friends. I would not be the same person if I went to my local middle school. Crystal has shaped me into the person I am today.

    Outside of the classroom:

Outside the classroom, I am often playing volleyball in the gym, talking to friends or practicing a dance from class. Crystal has great ways to get experience and exposure. For example, I have been to two diversity conferences hosted by other schools. Both of these conferences were so enlightening and engaging. I was selected by Crystal to attend as a MS representative. I also love performing, whether it’s showing up in volleyball or on the stage. I have been dancing since I was two, and Crystal’s dance program suits all levels! From beginner to expert!

What made you decide to come to Crystal?
The first time I stepped on campus, I could feel that the community was strong. While I was in the classes, the teachers and students were warm and welcoming, making me feel like I belonged. I know I can make mistakes with a community around me to support me and help me along the way. The warm and welcoming community is definitely one of my favorite things about Crystal.

What made you decide to come to Crystal?
I came to Crystal because the community is so tight, yet welcoming. I remember feeling like I was meant to be there when I stepped onto campus, greeted by students. Every day since then school hasn’t been a burden, it’s been something I am excited for.

    Outside the classroom:
Outside of the classroom, I have loved getting to do dance arts and athletics. I also found my love for volleyball at Crystal and play outside of school now. I also did the musical The Little Mermaid for the first time and had so much fun. I joined the Environmental Stewardship club and got to care for the chickens, refresh the aquaponics, and garden around the school. I love Crystal’s philosophy of “and not or” because it has allowed me to try many different activities and find my favorites.

What made you decide to come to Crystal?
What I have enjoyed about my time at Crystal is the balance of academics, exercise, and fun activities. Even from the first day, everyone was so welcoming and we really get to the crux of learning. While sometimes our community needs a refresher on our core values, we are always resilient after that and an amazing community to be in. Another thing I have enjoyed is how open the space is. Even if I am having a bad day, because of maybe a class or a situation at home, then this open air, almost community college like environment lifts me up.There are so many options to do during recess - you don’t even need to have friends to do them! For example, playing pickleball, American football, football, basketball, tag, or just talking are all opportunities to enjoy the day. Further, inside classes, there is always the best teaching and my favorite teachers are all from this school. We also have extracurricular activities like joining sports or theatre programs. Not to mention Crystal-only events like Convocation, Fun in the Sun (although it was more cloudy last time), visits to the Upper School, grade socials, and even spirit prizes about cleaning up our environment! This all culminates in an amazing school that encourages everyone and, regardless if anyone is mean or dismissive of you, always pushes you to make new opportunities.

    Outside of the classroom:
I used to play club soccer. Now I play squash, which is similar to racquetball, in addition to amateur basketball, LCM(parliamentary and model UNITED NATIONS) debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, running and HIIT outside of school, trombone, concert band. But in Crystal, I join music clubs, brain games clubs, and even running-around athletic clubs. These are usually offered 3-4 times per year. I already listed the sports that I do at crystal, but I also perform in either the musical and/or the play. I also help with events sometimes, like setting up or even recording our version of Hot Ones. These opportunities are really amazing, so if you want to try them, join our community!
